Employee Counselling

It is estimated that with 10 million working days lost in the UK each year, up to 40% of absenteeism is attributable to psychological stress of one sort or another. Even when the stressed employee is at work, his or her performance may well fall below the expected standard.

Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP's) are used by organisations in both the private and the public sector to help employees tackle problems which are interfering with their work and their general wellbeing. The core of an EAP is the confidential counselling service and this is what we provide.

Our counsellors work with employees to explore solutions to their personal difficulties. These may include depression, anxiety, relationship problems, alcoholic or other addictions, bereavement or stresses in the workplace itself. Staff are able to access our service direct and to make an appointment to see one of our counsellors, usually within a week of contacting the service. Counselling takes place in the therapist’s consulting rooms, never in the workplace itself; this reinforces the professionalism and confidentiality of the arrangement.

This counselling is paid for by the employer, with a maximum number of sessions per employee, normally between six and ten, agreed in advance. With often long waiting times for NHS counselling in Wales, it makes sense for employers to consider the option of a staff counselling service both as an attractive part of their package of employee benefits and as a means of maximising the efficiency of their work-force.
